FAQ

You might be wondering…

What is the warranty of good working order?

Since October 5, 2026, Quebec's Consumer Protection Act requires the merchant and the manufacturer to repair certain new items for free if they break within 3 to 6 years, depending on the item. Parts, labour and reasonable transport costs are included.

Can the store send me to the manufacturer?

No. You can go to the merchant, the manufacturer, or both. Your choice.

When does the warranty start?

At delivery, not the purchase date (s. 38.4). Keep your receipt and proof of delivery: delivery email, delivery slip, confirmation.

I bought my item before October 5, 2026.

The new warranty doesn't apply. But the general warranties in the law (s. 37 and 38) still protect you: your item must be fit for normal use for a reasonable time.

Should I buy an extended warranty?

The legal warranty is free and automatic. Before offering you a paid extended warranty, the merchant must tell you about the one provided by law.

Is GarantieQC a government service?

No. GarantieQC is an independent app, not affiliated with the Government of Quebec or the Office de la protection du consommateur. For official information, visit the Office de la protection du consommateur website.
